Michigan State Police Wakefield troopers partner with Save a Life Tour to teach young motorists the dangers of texting and driving. Recently the MSP Wakefield post partnered with the Save a Life Toru organization to use a driving simulator and VR goggles while working with students from Bessemer and Wakefield-Marinesco schools.
MSP Community Service Trooper Joe Renuad who helps teach new drivers as a driving instructor had sought a way to bring the specialized education tool to the western upper peninsula. He says he wanted to get the equipment to the region because pure instruction doesn’t hit home with students the dangers involved with distracted driving. Adding students learn better using safe interactive tools such as virtual reality goggles and simulators because it can show what real-life impaired driving scenarios look like while students are still learning how to drive safely around others. He says he hopes to bring the program back to the area in 2025.
