High School
The Ewen-Trout Creek girls basketball team finished as state runners-up, after dropping a 53-29 decision in the state championship game against Fowler Saturday morning. The Eagles broke out to a quick early lead, and cruised to their third state championship in the last five years. Emma Besonen led the Panthers with 13 points. Bree Besonen added nine points and Irelynd McGeshick had seven points and 11 rebounds. Ewen ends its season with a record of 27-2, and returns all of its player for next year.

- In Division Three, Ypsilanti Arbor Prep defeated Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest 32-21 to win their second straight title.
- In Division Two, Tecumseh outscored Grand Rapids West Catholic 54-44.
- In Division One, Belleville dispatched Rockford 61-48.
High school hockey teams will be able to play two more games next season. The Michigan High School Athletic Association Representative Council approved the increase Friday, based on a recommendation from the MHSAA’s Ice Hockey Committee.
Great Lakes Hockey League
The Portage Lake Pioneers wrapped up the regular-season Great Lakes Hockey League championship with a 10-1 thrashing of the Dane County Dairy Kings Saturday.
The Pioneers will be the top seed as the post-season tournament opens Thursday in Eagle River, Wisconsin. The Calumet Wolverines will be the seventh seed.
NHL
The fading Red Wings fell 6-3 to the Golden Knights Saturday night. Lucas Raymond gave Detroit an early lead, but three straight goals by Vegas put them in control by the end of the first period. Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat scored late goals for the Wings. Cam Talbot took the loss in net.
Detroit has lost eight of 10, and will visit the Utah Hockey Club tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 8:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons host the Pelicans this afternoon. Coverage will begin at 2:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks scrambled past the Kings 114-108 Saturday night. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 32 points and 17 rebounds.
The Bucks visit the Suns Monday.
MLB
The Tigers and Braves battled to a scoreless tie Saturday. Jack Flaherty struck out five over six innings.
The Tigers face the Phillies today. Reese Olson will pitch against Aaron Nola.
It could be May or later before center fielder Parker Meadows returns to the Detroit line-up. A recent exam of the upper arm nerve issue that has sidelined him showed some improvement, but not as much as had been hoped. The Tigers started shortstop Javier Báez in center field in Saturday’s game.
The Tigers optioned starter Keider Montero to Toledo on Saturday. That opens the door for top prospect Jackson Jobe to join the rotation when the season begins Thursday. Tarik Skubal, Jack Flaherty, Reese Olson and Casey Mize will fill out the rotation. Detroit also optioned infielder Ryan Kreidler to the Mud Hens.
The Brewers dropped a 4-3 decision to the Athletics Saturday. Jose Quintana allowed two runs over three innings. Jake Bauers homered.
The Brewers face the Rockies today. Elvin Rodriguez will pitch against Chase Dollander.
