In high school baseball yesterday…
- Hancock and Iron Mountain split their games. The Mountaineers claimed the opener 14-0. The Bulldogs came back to take the nightcap 3-2.

In softball yesterday…
- Hancock’s games against Iron Mountain were called off.
- Jeffers took two from L’Anse, 13-3 and 11-6. In the opener, Elli Kuntze struck out six and allowed just three hits for the Jets. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate. In the nightcap, Naomi Frahm had three hits, including a two-run double for the Jets. Janet Mattila earned the pitching win with four strikeouts.
On the softball schedule today, Hancock hosts the Copper Country Invitational. Here is the projected schedule:

- 1:30: Hancock vs Coleman (WI); Houghton vs Menominee

MLB
The Tigers and Orioles were rained out last night. They’ll make it up as the back half of a day-night doubleheader today. In the early game, Casey Mize will pitch against Brandon Young. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift. Coverage of game two will start at 5:45.
Detroit has called reliever Sean Guenther up from Toledo. He’s been recovering from some early season back pain, and will replace reliever Bailey Horn, who was sent down Wednesday.
Former Tigers utility player Niko Goodrum has retired at age 33. Goodrum filled a number of roles in Detroit from 2018 through 2021. He had been playing for the Mets’ Triple-A team this spring.
The Brewers’ struggles continued with a 3-2 loss to the Cardinals last night. Chad Patrick couldn’t make it through the fifth inning, and took the loss.
The Brewers continue that series at Saint Louis tonight. Quinn Priester will start against Sonny Gray.
Milwaukee center fielder Garrett Mitchell left the game with oblique tightness. He’ll be evaluated today.

In NBA Eastern Conference quarterfinals last evening…
- The Magic upended the Celtics 95-93. Boston leads that series 2-1.
- The Bucks outscored the Pacers 117-101. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Gary Trent, Jr. each scored 37 for Milwaukee. Indiana leads that set 2-1.
In the Western Conference last night…
- The Timberwolves drained the Lakers 116-104. Minnesota is up 2-1 in that series.
In the Eastern Conference today…
- The Cavaliers visit the Heat. Cleveland has a 2-0 advantage in that set.
In the Western Conference…
- The Thunder visit the Grizzlies. Oklahoma City leads that series 3-0.
- The Clippers host the Nuggets. Denver is up 2-1 in that set.
- The Warriors entertain the Rockets. That series is tied 1-1.
NHL
In NHL Eastern Conference quarterfinal play last evening…
- The Canadiens dumped the Capitals 6-3. That series is tied 1-1.
- The Devils shaded the Hurricanes 3-2 in double overtime. Carolina holds a 2-1 lead in that series.

- The Oilers pasted the Kings 7-4. Los Angeles has a 2-1 lead in that set.

- The Lightning visit the Panthers. Florida has a 2-0 lead in that series.

NFL
On day two of the NFL Draft yesterday…
- The Lions selected Georgia offensive lineman Tate Ratledge in the second round, and grabbed Arkansas wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa in the third round.
- The Packers took North Carolina State offensive lineman Anthony Belton in the second round, and added TCU receiver Savion Williams in the third.
The draft will wrap up today. The Lions have no picks in the fourth or fifth rounds, but do have two in the sixth, and three in the seventh. The Packers have single picks in the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds, and two in the seventh.
