High School
In high school baseball yesterday…
- Houghton swept Hancock 2-0 and 7-2. Jackson Vondoloski of the Gremlins tossed a no hitter in the opener, striking out 12 over six innings, and walking just three. Bethany Garrow had three hits for the Copper Kings. In the second contest, Houghton’s Rylan Isaacson threw a complete game, striking out eight. Brycyn Nettel, Hudson Markham, and Eli Heathman each drove in two runs.
In softball yesterday…
- Houghton took two from Calumet, 11-5 and 18-12. Estella Soumis was the winning pitcher in the first game, and also had a triple and a pair of doubles. Lexi Burns had three hits for the Gremlins int eh nightcap, and Clare Ruonavaara had three for the Kings.

College Basketball
The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team has added two new recruits.
Connor Cameron is a 6-3 shooting guard from Alpena. He averaged 15 points per game in his senior season, and earned All-Conference Second Team honors.
Jesse Napgezek is a 6-4 guard who averaged 22.8 points per game in his senior season for Wausau East High School. He was a unanimous First Team All-Conference selection, and an All-State Honorable Mention.
MLB
The Tigers’ four-game win streak ended last evening with an 8-5 loss to the Astros. Jack Flaherty struggled through five innings, giving up four runs on six hits, including a pair of homers. Riley Greene hit two home runs for Detroit.
The Tigers visit the Astros again tonight. Reese Olson will pitch against Ryan Gusto. Because of Pistons basketball, coverage will begin at 7:45 on KBear 102.3.
The Brewers had yesterday off, and begin a set against the White Sox in Chicago tonight. Freddy Peralta will start against Bryse Wilson.

In NBA Eastern Conference quarterfinals last night…
- The Cavaliers routed the Heat 138-83. Cleveland wins that series 4-0.
In the Western Conference…
- The Warriors shaded the Rockets 109-106. Golden State leads that set 3-1.
In the Eastern Conference tonight…
- The Pistons play a must-win game at New York. The Knicks lead that series 3-1.
- The Bucks are in similar circumstances as they visit the Pacers. Indiana leads that set 3-1. The injury Damien Lillard suffered in Milwaukee’s last game has been confirmed as an Achilles tendon tear. He’ll need surgery, and could miss all of next season.
In the Western Conference…
- The Celtics host the Magic. Boston is up 3-1 in that series.
- Clippers visit the Nuggets. That set is tied 2-2.

NFL
