High School
Houghton and Jeffers will face off for the regional high school hockey title.
In last night’s semifinals, the Gremlins defeated the Bulldogs 5-3. Brody Donnelly had a hat trick for the Gremlins, and Noah Maillette and Teegan Tapani also scored. The Bulldogs got goals from Jackson Sintkowski, Jax Pierner and Damien Colombe.
The Jets dispatched the Copper Kings 4-1. Brogan Turner gave the Jets an early lead. Brit Heininen added a goal late in the second period, and Benton Rajala netted one early in the third frame. Matt Frantti got one back for the Copper Kings, but Blake Heltonen added an empty-netter to seal the win.
The Jets and Gremlins will play for the regional title Tuesday night at the SDC. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97-7 The Wolf.
In boys basketball last night…
- The Hancock v West Iron County contest was called off because of a logistical issue. The game will not be rescheduled.

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams host Northern Michigan tonight. The women’s game tips off at 5:00, and the men’s contest at 7:00.

NBA
The Pistons return to action tomorrow, when they visit the Spurs. Coverage will begin at 8:05 on 99.3 The Lift.
MLB
The Tigers will give Kenta Maeda every opportunity to work his way back into the starting rotation this spring. Manager A.J. Hinch yesterday said that Maeda will start in Saturday’s first Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. Maeda struggled last year after signing a lucrative free agent contract, and was demoted to the bullpen.
