The NBA playoff field is set, after last night’s play-in finals.
- The Heat claimed the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 123-114 overtime victory over the Hawks.
- The Grizzlies earned the eighth seed Western conference with a 120-106 triumph over the Mavericks.

MLB
The Tigers spotted the Royals an early lead, then cruised to 7-3 victory last evening. Jackson Jobe allowed a run in the first inning, then held Kansas City scoreless through the fifth to earn his second win of the season. Andy Ibáñez homered, and Spencer Torkelson belted a two-run double.
The Tigers entertain the Royals again today. Casey Mize will pitch against Seth Lugo. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit has placed reliever Beau Brieske on the injured list with inflammation in his right ankle. He’ll be out at least two weeks. Brenan Hanifee has been recalled from the Mud Hens to fill in. Outfielder Parker Meadows has been cleared to begin throwing, as he recovers from a nerve injury in his right arm. He’s still more than a month away from rejoining the team.
The Brewers picked up their third straight win, downing the Athletics 5-3. Freddy Peralta tossed five shutout innings. Third baseman Caleb Durbin had two hits in his major league debut. Christian Yelich had two hits and drove in three runs.
The Brewers entertain the Athletics again tonight. Chad Patrick will start against Luis Severino.
Brandon Woodruff continued his comeback from shoulder surgery with a four-inning rehab outing for the High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers yesterday afternoon. He threw 68 pitches, and said he felt good afterward. Woodruff hasn’t pitched in the majors since September of 2023.
Running
The annual Sisu Shuffle begins at 9:00 this morning at the UP Health System-Portage campus in Hancock. The family-friendly 5k run/walk is free to join, although registration is required. If you haven’t already signed up online, you can check in beginning at 8:30 this morning.
